Retreat begins on Friday with registration 10-12, lunch and a meet and greet, session continues through Sunday, ending at 4 pm.
Site is the Peterkin Camp and Conference Center, just west of Romney, WV. 1,400 acres of forest, clean mountain streams and miles of hiking trails, quiet wooded coves for meditation and inspiration. Lodge has conference room and lounge areas, private and double accommodations all with shared baths. Dining hall with buffet meals, special food needs can be met.
The Mountain State Fiber Artists will be holding their Spring Meeting at Peterkin on Saturday, you can join in and meet more fiber artists from the region.
Discover your creative spirit with other fiber artists. Either work on a project of yours, or follow along with Susan Feller , exploring the basic design elements and principles. Either way spend a few days with fibers, and friends amidst West Virginia’s beauty.
RETREAT SCHEDULE
Friday registration 10-12 lunch at noon, introductions, afternoon, first ++design session with Susan Feller, VALUE,CONTRAST, &TEXTURE Friday evening, design session 2.LINE, SHAPE and FORM Saturday morning: Design session 3. COLOR, FINALLY!
Saturday afternoon: join the Mountain State Fiber Artists on site, at their Spring Meeting, afternoon speaker to be announced. (Or keep working on your projects, explore Romney, and the Conference Center property, or enroll in a CREATIVE DYEING workshop with Jim Lilly at Ruckman Mill Farm, see registration form )
Saturday evening visit the studio at Ruckman Mill Farm, just 15 miles away and see how Susan and Jim are living in the mountains.
Sunday morning put all you learned together in Design session 4. COMPOSITON, Lunch and wrap up for the afternoon ending at 4:00pm ++++ Design sessions will use a kit ($40 register on form, ) and your bag of snarls along with of course your hook, frame and other fiber tools.
For those who want time away from daily distractions to work on a project amongst friends, old and new, these days will be “Almost Heaven”. Whether you participate in the design sessions or develop a project you bring from home; encouragement, a friendly critique, and inspiration is sure to be available as you work, listen and inquire.
Remember the 1,400 acres of forest at Peterkin will beckon you. Nature walks are a retreat tradition. Sitting on the wide veranda, listening to the creek, and talking are favorite moments too. The lights could stay on all night in the workrooms, creativity can’t be scheduled. Throughout the weekend make other discoveries including shopping in Romney, the oldest incorporated town in West Virginia. www.visithampshire.com
All linens are supplied, bring your own toiletries and an extra blanket; the rooms are basic with five rooms sharing three baths in each wing. There are two floors to the 1940’s lodge; people with special needs will be put on the first floor. If you have specific meal requirements, let us know. Commuters are welcome and will only miss the breakfast meals (and the fun of overnight creating).
Take a few days to find the artist within and connect with others on the same path. Guaranteed to change your way of seeing and doing. Come with trepidations leave with new vision and new friends. Bring some completed work to show . We will go home with finished projects.
RATES: Registration fee $50****. Non-refundable but transferable to 2012 event if cancel by March 1, 2011. Due January 15, 2011 to hold space.
